Isn’t it weird that the illustration of the woman is used in a serious manner to advertise for the Bic shavers? “For legs that beckon?” I thought we were over these stereotypical depictions of women, Canada? Photo taken on the subway in Toronto and posted via my new iPhone app!

Pay close attention to gender stereotyping around you. To unlearn sexism, you have to notice it first.

Here’s a video of an interview with me done by someone from APC about the internet and gender issues in Lebanon. This was during the CSW in New York last March. What we can definitely learn from this interview is that I talk too much. Interview with Nadine Moawad from APC on Vimeo.

Today, a bunch of us arrived in Cairo, Egypt in preparation for our meeting to design and launch a network of peer support for young feminists in the Arab world. Exciting! I have big hopes set for this meeting (organized and led by women under 30) and for a new wave of young feminism that

I really have a problem with the way this has been portrayed in the media. It’s not like the uselessness of these two women is anything new, but the contrast being made is clear: the men are serious, they discuss things, and the women are just being silly women and stealing candy. As if our women politicians are really any more useless than our male ones.

I totally agree with Shax! We should not fall into this discourse. Women politicians are not worse than men. And If you have to make fun of what they’re doing, then it’s better not to talk about it from a gender point of view.
Plus, I would rather have women who suck in the parliament then not have women at all.
